Santa's Gift of Service

BZZZ. BZZZ. BZZZ.

My phone went off at 7:00 am sharp. As much as I wanted to stay in bed and return to my blissful dreams, a hectic, bright day awaited me. After doing my usual routine, I was going to get dropped off at my friend's house. The two of us had agreed to carpool to CKI's Santa's Gift of Service. This would be our first time attending so we were beaming with excitement.

Once we arrived to Sac State, there was already a long line of Key Clubbers from the Grizzlies, Bees, Koi Fish, and Dinos waiting to get in. After a short wait, we were registered and the two of us were sorted into the "Elves." The room was filled with people buzzing about and the energy inside the room was contagious.

With a brief introduction, they started the event and the Elves started off with hats... which involved sewing. My friend was a veteran whereas the majority of the table we sat were pricking themselves constantly. The hat I was working on a mess since I was slow to sew and constantly had to go back to fix the thread. It was a miracle that I didn't need any band-aids after that station. Needless to say, we didn't finish and we moved on to make scarves (after a lot of whining to the team leaders that we didn't finish). The scarves, thankfully, didn't need any sewing. All we had to do was to cut some fringes into the cloth. Unfortunately, they ran out of scissors and cloth for a little bit. While we were waiting for supplies, we befriended our team leader named Louie. He was quirky and seemed like the type of person to who would cheer you up somehow. The time I spent at this event was amazing. The time spent bonding, meeting new people, serving the community, and so much more... I can't find the words to properly describe how much I enjoyed Santa's Gift of Service.
