Rhythms of the World
On September 25th, I attended Barbara Comstock Elementary School’s annual Rhythms of the World event. While there I served at the Africa booth. People would come up to the booth and ask questions about the countries in Africa, the items on the table, and tasted food from Africa. After asking a question or trying a dish from Nigeria, I would give them a stamp. People were dressed in their native clothing from each individual continent or country. At each table, there was a board/poster with information on the continents. There was also food, clothing, and art at each booth to view. There was food and music everywhere. It was really lively! It was as if a salad of cultures had come together and complimented each other, pointing out the unique and interesting cultural differences. On the school stage, students ranging from kindergarten- sixth grade performed dances, plays, and sung songs about what they were currently learning in class. Two others member from my club went along with me. One worked at the Europe booth and the other worked with me at the Africa booth. At the event I learned about different cultures, such as what they wear in Venezuela. I went to Rhythms of the World because I go every year and I find it exciting to teach others my own culture.
